Discussion Question #4

Chapter 11: Privacy is a controversial issue in the digital age. Schools have an obligation to ensure student safety, both physical and virtual. When using the Internet or the network, this requires keeping close tabs on students' activity when they are using computers. Do you think this violates students' privacy? Justify your opinion and consider both points of view.

I do not believe that this violates their privacy. School computers should be used for educational purposes, and if this is what it is being used for, than there should not be any issue with teachers just checking in to make sure students are not being inappropriate or sharing too much over the internet. The students should not be opposed to this because most usually, they are asked to sign an agreement about what they will and will not do while using the computer. As a student, it would be understandable about what is and is not appropriate as far as computer use is concerned at school.
