Discussion Question #1

This question comes from Chapter 1, it is question #2.

-Lifelong learning is not just a teacher preference; it is also a requirement for maintaining state certification. Technology literacy courses and workshops are some of the most popular learning experiences for certificate extension and renewal. Do you believe that taking additional courses in technology literacy is as important as those for you content or discipline? Is too much emphasis being placed on developing and maintaining technology competency? Defend your view.

I think that it is important that teachers go as often as possible to get certifications renewed as far as technology goes. I think this way because first of all, technology is becoming a bigger and bigger part of education. As times are changing, so are methods of teaching. Technology is used in many different ways in all kinds of class rooms. Gone are the days of putting transparency sheets on old school projectors to put an example up on the board for the class to see. Now days, most classrooms have a Smartboard, or an interactive projection board. These were a big change for the teachers who were used to the traditional forms of technology. This brings me to the next reason why it is important that teachers continue to go to workshops. Technology is always changing. ALWAYS. There is constantly a new technology invention coming out to make things easier for humanity. These new teaching technological devices are making learning easier and fun for both teacher and student. It is important that teachers keep up with the technological pace because many schools are beginning to switch to the NewTech format instead of common core. If this is the future of education, then attending workshops is just part of the job!
